Spring/Summer 2012 – Tropical Prints You Want to Wear Now

Spring fashion is in full swing, and Summer’s photogenic, island-inspired graphic prints are being seen on fashions to wear for the office, casual playdates or evening time. Take your inspiration from our favorite Spring/Summer 2012 runways by mixing and matching beach prints and tribal patterns with classic pieces you already own.

Tribal artwork inspired the looks at Alberta Ferretti Spring/Summer 2012 Collection

Layer a Blazer over wildly-printed pieces for a look that’s ultra fun, on-trend but still versatile enough for serious wear. Hot Summer colors, such as aqua, coral and ultra bright pink are flattering to pale and tan shades of skin. Don’t be afraid to try bright new hues on clothing and footwear. The looks shown here make for the perfect island getaway — no matter where you’re spending the Summer. Shown below – Go bright in black and white or hot pink.  Aztec printed romper by Topshop; Elyse blazer by Alice + Olivia, available at Shopbop.com.

Print Footwear is Fabulous with the season’s new, colored denim or solid color capris. Or, contrast printed apparel with coordinating bright flats for a fun new twist! Image Conscious – The Most Body-Forgiving Spring Fashions

In a  population where  size 6 bloggers are labeled as curvy and “plus” size models wear an 8, even the healthiest Women may begin to feel as if the fashion industry just doesn’t fit their frame.  An emphasis on teensy waists, longer limbs and underweight bodily mass has motivated fashion media  to take a stand against glorifying a stick-thin appearance on the runway and advertising campaigns.

Rachel Zoe Talks To Elle + Spring’s “It” Wedges

Rachel Zoe’s ever-fashionable baby-to-be is in for one of fashion’s greatest surprises.  “Boy or girl, I plan to take this child to fashion shows.”  While rumors have swirled all Winter about Rachel accidentally revealing her baby’s sex (a boy), the Project Runway star stylist and longtime husband Rodger Berman are keeping things hushed for now.  However, the couple did agree to a beautiful photo revealing Zoe’s baby bump for Elle.com’s “The New Modern Family”.

The petite Rachel’s appromixately 8-month pregnant belly was not too much to fit into a feral, zipper-detailed jacket and skirt from Givenchy by Riccardo Tisci.  Rodger relaxed, accessorized with rings and Tom Ford pajamas.   When asked by Elle how the baby will be transported to the front row, the stylist replied “Isn’t that what husbands are for?”

Salivating Over Wedges

Rachel Zoe is known for her penchant for mile-high wedges, having been gifted with boots custom designed by contemporary shoe king Brian Atwood.  Find one of her handpicked styles for Piperlime (below) and a refreshingly lovable (and wearable!) printed canvas by Alice + Olivia.

Designing Moms

As International Fashion Weeks come to a close, it’s time to reflect on the many women of fashion– and we’re not talking models!  Our favorite fashionistas play the role of designing the runway’s most popular collections while living the life of full-time mom.  Check out their apparel inspirations plus the latest looks for upcoming Spring 2011:

Victoria Beckham

The ultra-posh VB was the talk of New York’s recent Fashion Week, politely unveiling her Spring and Summer Collections of dresses and sunglasses (effectively named Victoria Beckham) to an intimate army of fashion elite.  Getting rave reviews from the likes of Rachel Zoe and Barneys Creative Director Simon Doonan, the former Spice Girl’s distinctive resume is that of a designer, couture muse and mother to boys Brooklyn, Cruz and Romeo (below, in early 2010).

Gwen Stefani

Known for her quirky, colorful looks that are the perfect example of punk-glam, the platinum-haired Stefani first debuted her collection Love, Angel, Music, Baby (aka L.A.M.B) in 2003.  Preceding her Spring/Summer ’11 show at NY Fashion Week,  Gwen enthusiastically explained to Styleite: “My kids are the whole reason I started L.A.M.B..  I wanted a creative outlet and to still have my kids around”.

Stacey Bendet

The wildly creative designer and co-founder of Alice + Olivia (with partner Andrew Rosen) made her collection famous upon the debut of striped bell bottoms.  Following a whirlwind of critical acclaim, Stacey’s fashion-star status led to Alice + Olivia Kids,  an equally stylish line enjoyed by mini fashion mavens Suri Cruise and Bendet’s own daughter Eloise, now 22 months.   What’s next?  Stacey and husband Eric Bendet recently announced they are expecting child #2.. and an A+O shoe line in 2011!
